ISLE Explore Paddle Board Review

When Kenon and I decided to purchase a paddle board, we did a lot of research to find the perfect, most high-quality board. ISLE Surf & SUP is a paddle board and surf board company out of San Diego, California. We chose the Explorer Inflatable Paddle Board* for its touring capability. It is designed to be sturdy in a multitude of conditions and capable of carrying up to 300 pounds of paddler and gear, making it perfect for multi-day adventures. It has front and rear bungee systems and extra touch points that make loading and securing gear much easier. This is exactly what we were looking for when we first started researching paddle boards.

Our Explorer’s maiden voyage was at Sand Hollow Reservoir in southern Utah. The conditions were windy and choppy, but not over the top. I paddled this board straight into the wind, and it cut right through the water like everything was calm. From the moment I stood up, I could tell it was the most stable board I had been on to date.

We tested the board out on even more turbulent conditions at Whaler’s Cove at Point Lobos Nature Reserve on the coast of California. The waves were caused by a winter storm that was blowing in. Again, the stability is incredible. This was my first time out on choppy ocean conditions, and I was able to stay standing for an impressive amount of time. Kenon describes it as a paddle torpedo because it cuts through the elements easily.

My favorite part is that it is so easy to transport. Clocking in at 22 pounds, Kenon has no problem throwing it on his back and hiking to a beach. We are able to fit it into our tiny hybrid hatchback and still have plenty of space for all of our other gear.

The number one question we get is “it is as durable as regular paddle boards?” I have absolutely no worries that this paddle board is “less durable” than regular, non-inflatables. Made of what ISLE describes as “military grade outer skin” this thing is reliable!

Inflating it does, obviously, take longer than just taking an epoxy board off a roof rack and placing it in the water. It is less than 10 minutes to inflate, though, and completely worth it for the mobility that is gained. Kenon and I work together on it, taking turns back and forth, which goes even faster. The last 5 or so PSI’s can be a little difficult but if you have your paddle muscles built up it should be no problem.

We’re already planning on buying a second board and fully trust ISLE with our business!
